Cindy Cunningham

DTM DHTC

Cindy Cunningham studied Therapeutic Massage in 1989 at the College of Holistic Medicine in Glasgow, following this with a three year diploma training in counselling and psychotherapy.

She has been working in the field of Massage and Bodywork for 8 years and is constantly amazed at the profound effect the simplicity of touch can have on us.

It can really change how we feel about ourselves, giving us the space we so often need in our lives to wind down and start to feel ourselves again; to feel those parts of ourselves that need attention.

I use various massage and bodywork techniques, helping the person to relax and unwind. People are so completely unique way they respond to touch and my commitment is to finding new ways of working more effectively with each very individual body.

Hephzibah Kolban

MA, MPH

The feelings, memories and experiences that are brought to sessions create a unique relationship in which it is possible for both therapist and client to explore the inner world and life of the client. As a therapist I listen uncritically and pay careful attention to what is being expressed. I can then begin to connect with the client's experiences and understand how life feels from the inside. As this happens, I try to make meaning with the client of their experiences. It is in this working together that new ways of thinking and feeling are found. As something is understood different possibilities and choices open up and new ways of being can come about.

Hephzibah trained at the Scottish Institute of Human Relations in psychodynamic counselling, gaining the two-year Certificate in Human Relations and Counselling and the Advanced Diploma. She has also completed a long-term personal analysis.

Hephzibah has been a practising counsellor in Edinburgh for the past seventeen years.

Unconditional touch is a key ingredient for our emotional and physical health.

As a form of therapeutic touch, the practice of massage dates back thousands of years. Using a combination of muscle and soft tissue strokes, joint manipulation and simple holding, massage offers you the oppportunity to relax and unwind.

It is also great for maintaining your immune system, helping to keep you well.

Massage can also be used for a variety of specific complaints such as sore necks, aching backs and tired legs!

During the first session I will give you time to share your reasons for having massage.

I will take a record of your medical hstory and by taking into account your lifestyle, stress levels, exercise, occupation and any other factors that might influence your well-being, I will aim to tailor a treatment to your specific needs.

With Holistic Massage we can work on the whole body or we can focus on where it is most needed.

What matters is what suits you.

An initial consultation and session costs £38 and lasts around an hour and a quarter. A follow up session costs £35 and lasts about an hour.

Keith Farvis

RCST RPP(UK)

I have had a lifelong interest in health and healing. This interest covers body, mind and spirit. After 12 years of teaching and lecturing on meditation, from 1985 I practiced and taught Polarity Therapy with its remarkable understanding of the human energy fields. After a further year's training in Craniosacral Therapy in 1995, I decided to make Craniosacral Therapy the primary focus of my therapeutic work. For me Craniosacral Therapy clarifies the relationship between the detailed anatomy and physiology of the body and the underlying energy dynamics at its very core.

My experience is that Craniosacral Therapy can facilitate the resolution of a wide range of health related conditions and I use it myself to maintain my own health.

I practice according to the Biodynamic approach which seeks to evoke each person's own inherent and unique treatment plan. When the therapist follows the body's intelligence in this way, it results in the most optimal form of treatment possible because our own bodies know best what they need in order to regain and retain their health.

I am a fully trained Craniosacral Therapist and Polarity Therapist, having trained primarily with Franklyn Sills of the Karuna Institute. I am insured and registered on the Professional Registers of the Craniosacral Therapy Association (UK) and the Polarity Therapy Association (UK).

I have had shorter training in Applied Kinesiology and Process Oriented Psychology working with shock and trauma and training in Craniosacral Therapy for mothers and babies. I also follow an ongoing programme of Continuing Professional Development in Craniosacral Therapy and other areas of health care.

Pascal Da Silva

Hello, I am a French national, I trained in Traditional Acupuncture in Brittany with Dr Daniel Laurent and graduated in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam after several internships. The practice of acupuncture is very similar in Vietnam and China, but Vietnamese doctors can speak either French or English which is rarely the case in China.
My acupuncture practice is described in the UK as integrated “5 element” and “Traditional Chinese Medicine”. I did a postgraduate course on Women’s Health and Fertility with sinologist Elisabeth Rochat in Paris.
I ran a busy practice in Brittany before we decided to moved to Edinburgh with my Scottish wife and bi-lingual daughter Amy.
I am now a fully registered and insured member of The British Acupuncture Council (www.acupunture.org.uk ).

Prior to my acupuncture studies, I completed a degree in Art with a specialized subject in Art Therapy in 1996.
Art therapy is the clinical application of art and psychology as a vehicle for communication, healing and growth. As part of these studies, I attended regular workshops in a psychiatric hospital in France.

I have been practicing Aikido since 1885, a Japanese Martial Art which plays a geat part in my experience of Qi-Breath .

Traditional Acupuncture works to maintain your body's equilibrium by focussing on all aspects of well-being; your physical, mental and emotional constitution.

Your initial consultation with me will take longer than subsequent appointments (1 hour and 30 min). I will take the time to listen to you and have an in-depth discussion with you.
We will then put together an unique treatment plan with which you feel comfortable and able to commit.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any enquiry: 07982 742 177

Rob Ritchie

Gestalt/Psychodynamic
Psychotherapist

Rob began training in counselling skills in 1985 and studied Transpersonal Psychology. He founded The Whole Works in 1992. Since this he has been involved with 3 years of Process Oriented Psychotherapy study followed by 2 years training with The Gestalt Trust Scotland in 1995. Rob has been involved with work around men's issues and since 1998 studied at The Scottish Institute of Human Relations in Psychodynamic theory. In 1999 he was accepted for Analytical Psychotherapy training. Rob is also trained in HypnoPsychotherapy and Chinese Medicine.

In the Native American traditions, if a brother or sister of the tribe was affected in their 'spirit' in some way, the elder of the tribe would listen to them for a particular time with undivided attention and presence. The elder imagined into the tribe member's story, 'tuning into' the essence of their distress. The tribe member knew something special was 'held' for them there. Often the healing involved a particular ritual or journey within their mythological world of the 'spirit of place,' or of a stone, tree, or animal; all imbued with sacredness, and as 'spirit messengers' for the tribe.

Nowadays we don't know for certain what heals a difficult and painful process for someone or a frightened and confused place inside us....we are all different: Each one of us has our unique inner process trying to take place though involving us often in symptoms we would rather not have. There is a search for what really is important, meaningful or 'sacred' to us. Some of us may know roughly the way back to our True Self though it may be through diffcult, exposed and seemingly empty inner 'terrain'. In the therapeutic relationship this journey is enabled and 'sacredness' or care rediscovered and 'held'for the client.

Rob is particularly interested in the experience of overwhelmed, depressed and fragile states of self where anxiety and panic are valuable messengers.

Sue Lieberman

BA, MSc.
UKAHPP Accredited: Gestalt & Group Analytic Psychotherapist

Who am I?

I am a psychotherapist of many years’ standing, with a deep interest in the dynamics of the human soul, and the lifelong challenge of developing our human potential.

My background is in Gestalt therapy, but with many additional forms of training which have changed and enriched my practice. I trained as a Gestalt therapist in the late 1980s, and subsequently spent four years in Group Analysis, as well as undertaking intensive trainings in Family and Systems Constellations. I am a UK accredited psychotherapist, and hold the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Group Psychotherapy from the Institute of Group Analysis. In June 2007 I expect to be registered with the UK Council of Psychotherapy.

I have been practising as a psychotherapist since 1991. I work in a way which integrates humanistic practice with psycho-dynamic theory, but which is always relationally-based. I take seriously my own development, and bring this as a continual process into my work.
I work also as an organisational consultant, and bring to organisations a similar interest in growth, change, and human relationships.
My psychotherapy practice is based at The Whole Works (in central Edinburgh) and the Salisbury Centre (a mile south of Edinburgh City Centre).

How can psychotherapy help?

Living is a constant process of growth and change. Living also presents us with challenges that can have deep emotional and psychological impact, and it is in the process of tackling those challenges that the greatest potential for our growth lies.

At difficult times, most of us need the presence of someone else who can listen sympathetically, help us digest what can be painful feelings and experiences, and accompany us through the process of personal change. Many people turn to counselling and psychotherapy to support them through difficult periods: whether issues relate to experiences in the here-and-now, or to older traumas from the past.

My own experience has taught me how enriching psychotherapy can be. If you, or you and your partner, need someone to turn to at this point, I hope to be able to offer you that compassionate presence you want to help you through.

Therapy works best for most people when it is regular and consistent. I usually see individual clients weekly, sometimes more frequently when needed. When we first meet, we discuss how your therapeutic needs can best be met: whether I am the best person to meet them, what you hope to gain, and what commitment we can both make to help you on this journey.

You can speak to me on 0131 662 9769 (mobile:07939 014720) , or make an appointment through the Whole Works.
