BA, MPhil, MA Core Process Psychotherapy
UKCP Registered Psychotherapist
Following an early career working in London in magazine and book publishing, in community projects and small businesses, Florence trained in Core Process Psychotherapy at the Karuna Institute in Devon. She has a lifelong interest in the nature of the human condition, in the holistic teachings of ancient wisdom, and working with the creative imagination in an embodied way.
She has been a student and practitioner of Buddhist psychology and awareness practices since 1996. In the south of England she worked in a variety of clinical settings including addictions services and community mental health, as well as in private practice, before returning to Scotland in 2008. As an Accredited Core Process Psychotherapist registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy, she has a clinical practice at The Whole Works on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and at Tara Trust near the Haymarket railway station.
In offering a confidential, clear and contained space for reflection, self-acceptance and exploration of inner experience and ways of being in relationship, therapy can provide a rare opportunity to slow down and realign with the healing resources of body and mind. As a depth psychotherapy rooted in awareness, and at the same time integrating Western psychotherapeutic skills and practices, the Core Process approach works in the context of a therapeutic alliance that welcomes the whole person rather than addressing ‘issues’.
Core Process recognises our deep need to find ways to live with meaning, health, creativity and resilience, in relationship with ourselves and others in and beyond our immediate environment. Witnessing the same dynamics that create and reinforce suffering may also reconnect us with a relaxed, embodied, compassionate and expansive experience of being more fully present in everyday life.
