BA Hons Psychology, MSc Health Psychology, Dip CP, Dip Hyp.
Having undertaken psychology as an undergraduate and health psychology as a postgraduate degree, I applied my training in the field of children/young people focusing on social and health related aspects of life.
More recently I gained my diplomas in hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy with an aim to be able to provide individuals, young people and their families with the support that I felt was central in finding resolution at difficult times in life and reaching potential in life.
While working within school and social care environments I became sympathetic and aware of the concerns faced by individuals who have their health and social care as a central focus to their life. The difficulties that families can face as a result can become overwhelming and cause family dynamics to change leading to frustrations and negative feelings. During the ten years I worked directly with young people, their families and adults in these areas, I found that there was a need for emotional support in order to face difficult times and to find ways to feel positive about the future. This was particularly important when working with young people and adults at times of change and growth. I had experienced positive therapeutic relationship myself and knew that being able to provide a safe, respectful and non judgmental environment can be central to reaching our potential, making positive future goals and finding resolution when we face difficulties or feel unsatisfied with life.
In 2007 I started my training with chrysalis. Chrysalis is an established and respected therapy training centre whose central aim is based on the relationship built between the therapist and client to explore the past, present and future. Chrysalis use a model called T.I.M.E. which aims to match the best techniques from the best approach with the concern an individual faces and aims to resolve. T.I.M.E stands for Temporal, Interventional, Multi-model, and Empathetic. Using appropriate psychotherapeutic tools, including hypnotherapy, to help the client to understand their present situation through the mapping of their past, this approach assists the client to emerge from the present and make positive changes for the future.
I draw on my training and experience to allow individuals to direct their therapy and central to this is to provide a safe, open, respectful environment on which to build a trusting relationship between myself and the individual.
