Rogerian/Person-Centred Therapy
£45 per hour for counselling and therapeutic work.
Person-Centred Therapy is a way of working which (I believe) understands the individuals’ need for a supportive, non judgemental, non-intrusive, compassionate environment within which to explore and better understand him/herself.
I am based in The Whole Works one day a week (Monday). The other weekdays are taken up running a counselling service attached to a health centre in Peebles, alongside running a therapeutic nature based project for the psychiatric service in the Borders Region.
When I work at the weekend it is to offer days out to individuals wanting a longer period of therapeutic contact who are willing to journey through nature walking while they talk.
I live in the Borders Region with my wife, four children and lots of animals.
I began working therapeutically in the mid eighties at a residential school in Peebles. I initially trained in counselling in 1992 at Heriot Watt University where I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Counselling. Fired up by this training, I moved to Strathclyde University where in 1993 I completed a Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. Since then I have taken part in various training courses as a way of deepening this initial training.
My professional work has included being employed as: a supervisor for counsellors; working with Employment Assistance Programme providers; Course team leader for a Diploma in Counselling course; part of a team chosen to re-edit the Cosca Certificate in counselling skills course; a counsellor for Strathclyde University; a supervisor and a member of the training team for CRUSE; offering nature based team building days.
