A Few Things about my Journey:
Since I can remember, I always found myself immersed in stories. Stories for me were not just a means to comfort myself, but a means to understand myself and the world around me. I started off as an English Literature student, but I always felt that there is something more to the creative process, that is linked to our mental health and well-being. I went on to study Health Humanities and Arts, to explore how performing and producing arts can reshape and reconceptualize our experience, and worked with prose, poetry and storytelling to explore how writing enables us to come to know who we are.
For the past four years I have been studying at the Doctorate programme of Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Edinburgh, because I also wished to take active part in the stories of others. To listen, to connect, to affect and be affected.
Since then, I have worked as a psychotherapist in multiple Counselling services, with a focus on trauma-informed care. I have supported survivors of sexual and domestic violence and children and adolescents that are affected by drug-alcohol use within their family. I have also worked closely with loss and grief, sexuality and gender identity, anxiety and self-harm and struggles around self-esteem and self-image.
My Therapeutic Practice:
I am a COSCA qualified psychotherapist, and a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. My practice draws from both person-centered and psychodynamic theory and embraces the connection between the body and the psyche, as well as the artistic and creative with mental health and well-being.
What to Expect:
I view therapy as a mutual, collaborative process that invites us to pay attention to our internal experience and create meaning. Our therapeutic work together will be based on creating a genuine and authentic relationship where you feel safe to be freely and deeply yourself. Together we will explore any feelings, thoughts, dreams, or bodily sensations that are coming up for you, and we will try to symbolize the meaning of your experience.
My approach is trauma-informed and non-directive, which means that I trust you to be the expert of your own material and to use the space in the ways you wish to. I am also committed to anti-oppressive practice, and I care about acknowledging how our different socio-cultural identities and structural systems affect and define our personal experience.
I am also pulled to creative practices, such as creative writing, storytelling and poetry and I am happy for us to work with any other forms of self-expression that speak to you.
