On the journey of self exploration, self knowledge and towards greater peace of mind, I offer myself as a safe companion and guide. With over a decade of experience working with a diverse range of adults and young people, I work with flexibility in the room to find the best way of building a good therapeutic relationship.
I trained with Edinburgh University and use a Psychodynamic approach. This recognises the need to consider how aspects of the present may frustrate or worry and demand to be addressed. Core to this practice is that past experiences and early relationship dynamics can control us in the present in both mind and in body. By paying attention to how history has formed us, there is a possibility to bring into awareness that which controls us and so have greater choice for change in the future.
I have continued training through my work, including in working with young adults, in family systems, in the impact of childhood abuse, emotional and physical and in the impact of accumulated Childhood adverse experiences. I have trained in somatic body work where the physical health is recognised as a container and flag of mental health challenges including Chronic ill health issues and dissociative disorders. I have trained and worked with clients on the impact of the boarding school experience and have found this also to be relevant knowledge for working with care leavers. I am currently in ongoing training and supervision in Eye movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing technique and am offering this as part of my practice.
I am able to offer to work in a hybrid way with my client online/in person in a way we find best together, whilst keeping regular slots. I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and adhere to their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
