In our moments of vulnerability, we all look for a space where we can express our inner most thoughts and feelings openly without the fear of judgement. Therapy offers one such space where we can voice our feelings and reflect on the stories that we tell ourselves that may be potentially limiting our experience as a human being.
Counselling came to me after my own experience of therapy where I got a chance to experience the transformative power of human connection and healing. Therapy gave me a chance to find a space where I felt safe enough to explore the different parts of myself that were hidden and needed exploration. It has become a space for me to go to for support during challenging times but also when I need a space to self-reflect and need help in looking at things from a different perspective.
In my own practice, I attempt to offer my clients a space where they can bring their authentic selves and feel heard and supported. I aim to create a relationship built on trust, empathy and non-judgement. My practice is based on an integrative approach which blends both psychodynamic and person-centred models of psychotherapy. Which means, I attend to the situations from the present that may be causing you distress as well as attend to unconscious processes and influences from your early relationships patterns that may show up in your adult life. My approach is non-directive and focuses on creating a collaborative relationship where we can together look at areas you wish to work on.
My work at Edinburgh women’s aid has given me specific experience in working with domestic based violence and other forms of sexual abuse. My time there was especially helpful in my training year as it gave me an understanding of how trauma affects individuals who have experienced different forms of abuse and it continues to be an area of interest to me.
Our initial 50-minute consultation would be a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what you expect from therapy and to see if we are a good fit. I would encourage any questions you may have about my practice or just about counselling in general. If we choose to work together, our sessions would be for 50 mins same day every week. We would also be reviewing our work together regularly to see where we are at in our work together.
