Bowen Technique
What is it all about?
The Bowen Technique was developed in the 1940s and 50s by Tom Bowen. It is a gentle form of bodywork done through light clothing or on skin. It’s deeply relaxing, fast working and often permanently helps your body to restore its natural balance. It can be given to all ages, from newborns to older people.
So what happens?
Touch is used in a very different way to other forms of hands-on therapy. It is not massage, acupressure or energy work.
The length of treatments can vary tremendously, but would rarely be for longer than 50 minutes. The client’s comfort is paramount and no additional discomfort should be experienced from the work done during the session.
The session is a series of rolling ‘moves’ done over specific muscles. These moves also have a profound effect on your nervous system.
Although this therapy is gentle in its touch, it can have powerful, fast and enduring effects.
What can it help?
Acute problems – can provide fast and effective relief for many painful acute injuries.
Long term or chronic conditions can alleviate continuing pain and rectify problems by breaking the patterns the body has bodies have developed to protect it which now hinder further recovery.
Internal organs/systems can assist with problems such as asthma and allergies and hormonal imbalances because the effect moves deep within the body. Thus, as equilibrium is restored and circulation improves, lymphatic drainage increases. Hormones can then balance out and digestion can improve as the body is under a reduced amount of stress.
