UKCP Registered Psychotherapist
Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist
I am a psychotherapist of many years’ standing, with a deep interest in the dynamics of the human soul, and the lifelong challenge of developing our human potential.
My original background was in Gestalt therapy but, with many additional forms of training which have changed and enriched my practice, I now practise as an integrative psychotherapist. I trained as a Gestalt therapist in the late 1980s, and subsequently in Group Analysis and in Family and Systems Constellations. I am an accredited member of the UK Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners, and a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist.
I have been practising as a psychotherapist since 1991. I work in a way which integrates humanistic practice with psycho-dynamic theory, but which is always relationally-based. I take seriously my own development, and bring this as a continual process into my work.
I work also as an organisational consultant, and bring to organisations a similar interest in growth, change, and human relationships.
My psychotherapy practice is based at The Whole Works (in central Edinburgh) and Southside Health (a mile south of Edinburgh City Centre).
Living is a constant process of growth and change. Living also presents us with challenges that can have deep emotional and psychological impact, and it is in the process of tackling those challenges that the greatest potential for our growth lies.
At difficult times, most of us need the presence of someone else who can listen sympathetically, help us digest what can be painful feelings and experiences, and accompany us through the process of personal change. Many people turn to counselling and psychotherapy to support them through difficult periods: whether issues relate to experiences in the here-and-now, or to older traumas from the past.
My own experience has taught me how enriching psychotherapy can be. If you, or you and your partner, need someone to turn to at this point, I hope to be able to offer you that compassionate presence you want to help you through.
Therapy works best for most people when it is regular and consistent. I usually see individual clients weekly, sometimes more frequently when needed. When we first meet, we discuss how your therapeutic needs can best be met: whether I am the best person to meet them, what you hope to gain, and what commitment we can both make to help you on this journey.
