I know how hard it can be to reach out when life feels challenging. Often when we are most in need of help, we retreat inside ourselves to gain a sense of safety, to avoid feelings of judgement and shame.
I aim to offer a warm, gentle and non-judgemental space where we can, with time, build trust and work through your present difficulties. My approach is mainly informed by psychodynamic relational thinking, which means I view your early life experience as an important part of your story, and I am interested in what emerges between us relationally in our space.
I have experience in working with adults with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, abuse, loss, grief, shame, and relationship issues. Increasingly, I have been working with individuals who have received later life diagnoses of autism and attention deficit disorder. I am a registered member of COSCA, Scotland’s professional body for counselling and psychotherapy and follow their best practice and ethical guidelines.
I trained at the University of Edinburgh in the dialogue between person-centred and psychodynamic perspectives. Prior to my career as a psychodynamic counsellor, I worked for over 15 years in the financial sector and volunteered with various helping organisations, including Childline and Parentline.
