Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle form of hands-on bodywork involving the whole body. The effects of this therapy can be profound, supporting not only the physical, but also the mental and emotional aspects of ourselves.
A key basis of Craniosacral Therapy is the evaluation and enhancement of a subtle full-body breathing-like movement, which takes place within the fluids and structures of the body. This movement is naturally full and easy throughout the body. It becomes constrained where the body is compromised, leading to the variety of symptoms we experience as difficult or disturbing.
The body becomes compromised in this way because of infections, accidents, operations, traumas, mental attitudes or long-held emotional states. Craniosacral Therapy can help ease to return to the body and in so doing releases the inherent ability of the body to maintain its own health. The therapist’s skill lies in supporting the body to resolve these underlying imbalances and enable the self-healing powers of the body to come into play more fully.
Craniosacral Therapy takes place clothed on a massage table. It is different from massage: the touch is very light in order to connect with and not disrupt the natural movements and patterns of the body’s tissues. A session is often experienced as deeply relaxing, as it is in this state that the body’s own healing resources are released.
Because Craniosacral Therapy works with our own unerring ability to heal ourselves, it is applicable to a wide range of conditions. People also use it as resource for general health maintenance as it promotes our overall health and vitality.
