Somatic Experiencing is a body-based method in addressing shock, stress and trauma – physical, emotional and psychological. It is a simple process that works with the body’s natural self-regulating systems and doesn’t necessarily involve touch or body work.
SE works to gently relieve held stress and the physical symptoms of trauma in the body, and restores balance and a sense of wholeness through gentle re-regulation of the nervous system. The focus of the work is not on psychological exploration, but addresses symptoms of traumatic overwhelm such as anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disturbances, lack of concentration or “brain fog” as well as inability to bond or maintain healthy relationships.
